Favourite Shot Types

In our media lessons we're always being told that the type of shot we use is what has an impact on the audience ....we have taken this into account and will be using some interesting shots to film our thriller

Close Ups

A close up shows really close detail of the person/object. If there was a close up of a person and it was just of their eyes we can somehow see through them. Close ups allow us to feel what the character is feeling or to sense whats going through their mind. They're also really good to build up tension.

Panning

Panning is when the camera follows the person in the scene. Its a great way of building tension as it feels like your also taking each step they take. It also feels like your waiting to see or meet someone/something scary or surprising.

Extreme Long Shot                                                                  

Extreme long shots are really effective as you dont know the person or the object thats in the distance and all you can see is just a shape. Theres also a really wide space and you dont know whos goin to pop out from the sides!

Low Angles

Low angles allow the person in the shot to look superior....they work really well when your trying to make someone look strong and more of a 'Boss', Kind of MUCHO!

Over The Shoulder Shot

I really like over the shoulder shots as you can see the facial expression of one person but you can only see the back of the other persons head. So you're just wondering what the other person is thinking by interpreting the facial expression on the person you can see's face.

Roughcut Feedback/Changes

As a group we somehow share the same thoughts and ideas so we dont realise it when we've got unnecessary bits in our film. After finishing our rough cut we got our teacher Bernard to look over it and give us some advise....It turned out that we had sooooo many unnecessary shots. when we cut it down we only had like 1min of filming done ; which was way too short...this meant that we had to do more filming and get some INTERESTING shots in there. Also the paste of our film was kind of slow so we had to get it more sharp and we shouldn't allow the audience to spend hours staring at one shot .... It should be quick and sharp shots. Especially when we're zooming into each image on the mood board, Bernard advised us to make this a quick movement from one picture to the other.
      We thought of having a pitch black dark scene and the only source of light was the computer screen, It only enabled us to see Charlene's head from the back. Bernard told us that this part wasn't needed and so we decided to take it out. We replaced it with Charlene's hand on the lamp and then she switches it on and we see LIGHT! Some the things weren't clear enough for the audience to see whats happening ....such as the Facebook conversation. We were told to make it clear ...so we're currently working on this .

Sound tracks that we may use

This soundtrack seems like it'll go really well with our thriller as it has a slow paste and similar to our thriller which hasn't got any fast movements.

 

We thought that playing the black dying rose through the headphones will work... as the image of the innocent school girl is diversified into something different. Heavy metal isn't the typical kind of music an innocent school girl would listen to. 

Editing our thriller

Slightly running out of time to do more filming so we began editing what we've got.... you think you have enough shots until it gets down to editing and you realise that you haven't got much. This meant that we had to schedule another day to do more filming as in some of our shots the lighting was different and so they didn't match. Nick was getting on with most of the editing whilst me and Charlene were coming up with the kind of background music/sounds that we should put in to create the whole kind of Thriller atmosphere. we thought of having a heavy metal tune coming out of the headphones .....and we found an instrumental on YouTube called - something I can never have. As for copyright reasons we came up with an idea that Charlene will record herself playing the piano and instead we can use that as one of our sounds.
